Dr.
Anindita Seal is a plant biochemist and Molecular
Biologist by training. She did her PhD in Department
of Biochemistry, Calcutta
University where she investigated
the role of the plant hormone Auxin in conferring
stress tolerance in peanut cell cultures. During
her postdoctoral research in Max
Planck Institute in Cologne, Germany, she was involved in investigating
the role of a unique group of Calcium Dependent Protein
Kinases (CDPKs) found in plants. This group of protein
kinases has been implicated in several important
biological responses in plants (Annu. Rev. Plant
Biol. 2004, 55: 263-288) which includes biotic and
abiotic stress responses. At present she is interested
in studying the molecular mechanisms of heavy metal
homeostasis in metallophytes especially hyperaccumulators
with respect to metal uptake, trafficking, efflux
etc. with the objective of investigating these special
class of plants for their potential use in phytoremediation.
