Eligibility criteria
for both the courses: |

| |
For Post-B.Sc. Integrated Ph.D. Program in Molecular Biology/ Microbiology/ Biophysics/ Bioinformatics
B.Sc. with honours in Zoology/ Botany/ Physiology/ Microbiology/ Biotechnology/ Molecular Biology/ Biochemistry/ Genetics/ Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Computer Science and not less than 55% marks in the honours subject.
Candidates appearing for their final year examination, or whose results are awaited, may also apply provided that, if selected, they will be admitted provisionally subject to submission of their final mark sheet by the cut-off date to be notified later by the university, failing which the provisional admission shall stand canceled.

Fellowship:
|
|
| |
A fellowship of Rs. 4000/- per month for the first semester will be awarded to the candidates who secure a cumulative score of 80% and above based on the admission test, interview and past academic record. Candidates will continue to receive this fellowship on maintaining a minimum CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) of 8.5 (on a scale of 10).
At the end of the first two years, candidates qualifying for the National
Eligibility Test (NET) will be eligible to continue
with the Ph.D. program. |

Tuition Fee: |
|

A tuition fee of Rs. 3000 per month will be charged
for selected candidates. Other institutional fees
are also applicable.

Application Process: |

Candidates may either apply online or duly fill up the downloaded application form and submit it to the university along with the following in a closed envelope addressed to the Director, School of Biotechnology, WBUT, BF-142, Salt Lake, Kolkata – 700 064, and superscribed in bold letters as “Application for M.Tech. in Bioinformatics”.
(1) the requisite fees – Rs. 600/- only (Rs. 300/- only for SC/ST/PH/OBC candidates) payable in the form of Demand Draft (DD) drawn in favour of West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata, payable at Kolkata (N.B. Candidates should write their name in block letters on the reverse of the draft).
(2) One copy of attested passport-size photograph.
(3) Attested photocopies of proof of date of birth and all marksheets/ certificates from the Higher Secondary or equivalent level.
For online submission of form click on "Online Submission" link in www.wbut.ac.in .Note that online submission shall not be deemed to be valid if the Demand Draft (DD) details are not clearly mentioned in the Application Form and the following are not received at the University office, in a closed envelope to be addressed/ superscribed as explained above, by the specified cut-off date:
(1) Demand Draft, in original.
(2) One copy of attested passport-size photograph with candidate’s name written in block letters on the reverse;
(3) Attested photocopies of proof of date of birth and all marksheets/ certificates from the Higher Secondary or equivalent level.

Note that the Demand Draft (DD) details must be clearly mentioned in the Application Form and the duly filled-up form, along with the following must be received at the University office, in a closed envelope to be addressed/ superscribed as explained above, by the specified cut-off date:
(1) Demand Draft, in original.
(2) One copy of attested passport-size photograph pasted in the designated space on the form.
(3) Attested photocopies of proof of date of birth and all marksheets/ certificates from the Higher Secondary or equivalent level.
The cut-off date for receiving all application-related documents at the university is June 2nd, 2008. Please note that personal submission at the central receiving office of the university is possible on all working days from Monday – Friday from 10:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. (The university is located adjacent to the Salt Lake Swimming Pool). No further requests/ queries in this regard shall be entertained whatsoever.
N.B. Applicants should further note that no acknowledgement or confirmation of receipt shall be sent by the university nor will any admit card be issued for the Admission Test. They are advised to check the University’s website (www.wbut.ac.in) not before June 9th, 2008 to find out whether their name appears in the list of candidates eligible to appear in the Admission Test.
In order to appear for the Admission Test, it is mandatory for applicants to bring with them a valid photographic identity document (photo ID) – acceptable forms of photo ID are valid passport/ valid driving license/ voter’s I.D./ admit card for the last university examination bearing the candidate’s photograph – original document only, no photocopies are permissible.

written test for all the candidates will be held on June 15th 2008 in
the campus of the University at BF-142, Salt-Lake,
Kolkata 700064. Candidates will have to enquire regarding
test schedule from the University. The candidates
must report to the venue at least 45 minutes before
the scheduled test time. No other intimation will
be given to the candidates. Candidates who wish to
be considered for both the courses should indicate
so on their answer script. |

The interview shall be held on July 4th, 2008, from 10:00 A.M. at the University campus. Final list of selected candidates will be published on July 12, 2008 on the university website (www.wbut.ac.in). |

B.E./B.Tech./M.B.B.S./B.V.Sc./M.C.A./M.Sc./B.Pharm. Candidates who will be appearing for their final year examination, or whose results are awaited may also apply. If any such candidate is selected following the interview, he/she will be awarded provisional admission. The candidate will have to submit the final mark sheet, which meets the above criteria, at a date to be specified later by the university, failing which the provisional admission shall stand cancelled.

The test shall comprise questions, in MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) format, in physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology at the Higher Secondary (or equivalent) level.
